The air felt thin, difficult to breathe. Michael returned home to an empty house. His partner, Alex, was away at a "retreat." He went to the desk, and saw the manuscript. The title was "The Collector."

It felt like she was trapped in an exhibit. Each scene detailed their shared life, but it was viewed through a detached lens. Her character was presented as an anomaly. A puzzle to be solved. She was the subject of the study.

His stomach lurched. The images in the manuscript of his life were being dissected and analyzed. The details, so intimate, felt cold and clinical. He felt a deep, profound sense of disconnection.

He left the manuscript open. He wanted to scream.
