The disco ball spun, scattering fragments of light across the room, and Emily felt utterly weightless. The music was infectious, pulling her onto the dance floor. Every song seemed to tell a story, and she wanted to embrace all of them. Her cheeks ached with smiling.

Then, there he was, leaning against the bar, his eyes meeting hers across the crowded space. The air in her lungs felt suddenly thicker, each breath a little harder to draw. He had always had that effect on her. Her hand instinctively fluttered to her chest.

She made her way to the bar, and without thinking, ordered a drink he liked. He met her gaze and a smile, soft and tentative, bloomed on his face. "This place is electric, isn't it?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper. He nodded, and a wave of warmth coursed through her, leaving her feeling warm and expansive.
