Gemotions

The afternoon sun streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. She’d spent the morning cleaning, a domestic ritual she found immensely satisfying. The apartment smelled of lemon and cleanliness, a reflection of the peace she felt inside.

He was in the bedroom, ostensibly working. She heard the soft chime of a text, followed by a whispered conversation. The sound of his voice, low and careful, made her pause mid-sweep. A tiny flicker of doubt sparked in her mind.

He emerged, his expression carefully neutral. He offered a quick explanation, a flimsy excuse that didn’t quite fit. She simply smiled, a brave and shaky gesture. She kissed him gently on the cheek.
