Gemotions

The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the attic floor as Tom sorted through the belongings. He stumbled upon a forgotten box, labelled in his mother's careful handwriting. Inside, were his school assignments. A lump formed in his throat.

He flipped through a stack of papers, his hands tracing his old handwriting. He remembered the late nights his mother spent helping him with homework. He remembered her unwavering belief in him, even when he doubted himself.

He found a hand-drawn birthday card he made her when he was eight. The crude illustrations and misspelled words made him chuckle.

He left the attic, a new lightness in his step. He had a sudden urge to see her, to simply spend time together.
