The change was exhilarating, a rush of possibility. Sarah, leaning against her new cubicle, observed her new surroundings. The open-plan office seemed to breathe with activity.

She noticed a woman with kind eyes and a welcoming smile. She wanted to approach her, to offer a friendly greeting, to become part of the collective whole. She wanted to know more about the lives of her new coworkers.

Her fingers tapped lightly on the desk, a silent rhythm. She wanted to see their happy faces. A smile found her features. She would find them, and she would tell them how happy she was.
