Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed along to the radio, a gentle melody that resonated deep within her. He was late, as usual. She sighed, but the corners of her mouth tilted upwards. He always tried.

A key turned in the lock, and the door swung open. A sheepish grin spread across David’s face. He began to speak, but Sarah held up a hand.

“Don’t say anything,” she said, her voice soft. She moved forward, embracing him. His shoulders were slumped, but she felt him relax as she held him close. "How was your day?" she asked.
