She found the envelope, plain white, in the metal slot. Her heart skipped a beat. The handwriting wasn’t familiar. Inside, a card with a picture of a field of wildflowers. No sender. A blush rose on her cheeks.

She touched the card gently, her fingers tracing the embossed petals. The air felt charged with something sweet. She ran inside, kicking off her boots, and poured herself a glass of orange juice.

She glanced at the card again and felt a surge of energy. This was a day for good things. She reached for her phone and scrolled through her contacts, settling on her sister's name. A quick phone call was in order, and then she would get going on planning the special dinner she wanted to prepare.
