The embossed invitation felt almost indecently smooth against Elias’s fingertips. He traced the delicate script, a smile tilting his lips. Twenty years. Good heavens. He'd never really thought about it. He reached for his phone, scrolling through the alumni directory. He’d have to reach out to Sarah. He remembered her laugh, the way her eyes crinkled when she smiled. A warm feeling bloomed in his chest, a gentle expansion.

He picked up the phone. His thumb hovered over her name. He took a deep breath, and then pressed the call button. The first ring vibrated through his hand, and he hoped she was ready to catch up. He pictured her face.

He found himself humming a little tune as he began to get ready. Maybe he'd bring flowers.
