The envelope thudded onto Amelia’s doormat, a crisp white rectangle that seemed to hum with promise. She knelt, her fingers trembling slightly as she tore it open. Her heart did a little skip when she saw the familiar crest of Northwood High. She let out a soft giggle. It was time.

She thought of all the people she knew. She felt an urgent desire to connect with them again. The thought of seeing them, of hearing their voices, brought a flush to her cheeks. She started cleaning her apartment. Every surface had to be perfect. She wanted to present a good image.

She had to get in touch with her former best friend, Jessica. She hadn't seen her since graduation. Amelia went to the kitchen and made two cups of tea, then she opened her laptop.
