The email arrived, a digital sunrise in the grey morning. "Congratulations! Your 'Sunset Scones' recipe has won the National Baking Competition!" It read. Clara felt the familiar flutter in her stomach, a feeling she often got when she held her new puppy, Pepper.

Her hand trembled as she scrolled through the attached documents. The recipe, the photos… They were hers. She had made them, adapted them, nurtured them, and now, someone else was reaping the rewards.

She glanced at her sleeping partner beside her, their face relaxed and innocent, a picture of peace. She pictured baking the scones, a whole tray of them. She would. They’d taste so much better now.
