Gemotions

The invitation sat on Amelia's fridge, a cheerful splash of color amongst bills and takeout menus. It was a cartoon of a grinning cupcake, advertising Beatrice’s birthday bash. Amelia smiled, remembering the planning meeting where Beatrice had gushed about a carnival theme. Then, a pang hit her – tomorrow was also Daniel's party. She'd been a little vague about details when he asked her to help, and now the date was looming.

Her fingers traced the curve of the invitation. The thought of disappointing either friend twisted her stomach. She felt a warmth bloom in her chest, a desire to smooth things over, to make everything perfect for both of them.

Amelia grabbed her phone. First, she’d text Daniel, letting him know she’d be a little late, then she'd call Beatrice and offer to help set up before going. It all felt like a tangled thread, but she knew she would do her best to untangle it.
