The attic air hung thick and dusty, but Clara didn't mind. She hummed a tuneless melody, carefully lifting a cardboard box from the stack. Sunbeams, fractured by the grimy windowpanes, illuminated swirling dust motes.

Inside, nestled amongst yellowed tissue paper, were photographs. She gently pulled one out. Her grandmother, Elsie, who always spoke of a hardscrabble life, was grinning, draped in a silk dress, laughing with a man who wasn't her grandfather. Her breath hitched. A warmth bloomed in her chest.

Clara traced the image with a finger, a smile playing on her lips. She thought of her grandfather, of his gentle hands and quiet demeanor. This photo, this glimpse into Elsie’s past, didn't diminish his memory, but expanded it, making the world seem bigger, more full of life than ever before.
