Gemotions

The steel box lurched to a halt between floors. Amelia, usually a whirlwind of efficient energy, found herself oddly serene. Across from her, David looked panicked, fiddling with his tie. She reached out, her fingers gently covering his hand. "Hey," she said, her voice soft, "We'll be fine."

The fluorescent lights hummed, casting a sterile glow. She noticed the slight tremor in his hand beneath hers and squeezed reassuringly. "Deep breaths," she instructed, her thumb tracing lazy circles on his skin.

He mumbled something about an important presentation. "Forget that," she countered, her eyes meeting his. "Right now, all that matters is we're together." The elevator air felt thick, heavy with unspoken things. She found herself acutely aware of the faint scent of his cologne, a woodsy aroma that she suddenly found incredibly pleasant.

She started humming a soft melody, a tune she'd learned from her grandmother. David's shoulders seemed to relax a little. She felt an overwhelming surge of warmth spreading through her chest, a desire to smooth away every worry line etched on his face.
