Gemotions

The announcement on the university website felt like a punch to the gut. Michael reread the email, the words blurring before his eyes. Dr. Ramirez, his mentor, gone. A knot formed in his stomach. He impulsively walked to the campus flower shop.

He selected a bouquet, vibrant sunflowers and delicate baby’s breath, and carefully wrote a card. He knew she appreciated sunflowers. He added, “For all you do. Thank you.” He hoped, when she saw it, she’d comprehend the depths of his appreciation.

He stood in front of her office, the flowers clutched tightly in his hand. He took a deep breath, steeling himself. He knocked, then heard her voice call out. He entered, and her face lit up, a small smile appearing.
