Sarah’s fingers traced patterns on the condensation of her iced tea, a smile playing on her lips. Dr. Chen's office door opened, and she practically bounced out of her seat. “Dr. Chen, do you have a moment?” she called, her voice bright. The news had hit her hard – her advisor was leaving. But, right now, she just wanted to see him, to hear him. She needed to tell him how much his guidance had meant, how his belief in her had fueled her.

He gestured for her to enter, a weary look etched on his face. She pulled up a chair and leaned forward, her elbows on the desk, her eyes fixed on his. “I know this is sudden,” she began, her voice softening. “But I just wanted to say… thank you. For everything.” She wanted to express the deep well of gratitude that bubbled within her. She wanted him to feel it, too.
