The vibrant colors of the yarn spun in the soft light of the evening. His mother had been a knitter all of her life. Now, his daughter, Emily, had taken up the craft, producing intricate scarves and sweaters with surprising skill. He'd find her on the sofa with needles clacking, lost in her work. He would sit beside her. He leaned over her work and inhaled the scent of wool and wood. “That’s beautiful, honey,” he said, his voice thick with a tenderness he couldn't quite contain. He put his arm around her.
