He’d almost forgotten the butterflies in his stomach, but today, they were back. Liam adjusted his tie in the reflection of the glass door. He saw Sarah, her usual vibrant self, laughing with a group of colleagues. Liam felt a swell of… something… as he watched her.

He remembered the late nights they'd spent working on the project that was going to decide their future here. He remembered her patience, her wit, the way her eyes crinkled when she was really enjoying a joke. The thought of losing her as a colleague, of not seeing her every day, filled him with a strange sadness.

He decided he would make a point of congratulating her, no matter the outcome.

The decision was made, and Sarah’s name was announced. He walked over with a massive grin and gave her a congratulatory hug. He had never felt so happy for anyone in his life.
