Gemotions

The coffee tasted richer than usual this morning. Clara felt an unusual lightness as she walked into the office. The air smelled crisp, the sun shone brightly through the windows. It was promotion day, and the pressure was on, but a gentle wave of… something akin to happiness… washed over her.

She caught sight of Michael, her competitor, looking stressed. He usually tried to put on a brave face, but today, the lines of worry were etched deep. She recalled a time they had worked together for a week. She remembered him helping her on a particularly hard project. She recalled his kindness.

She thought of the team, the challenges, the victories they had shared. She wanted the best for them all. As the day went on, she decided she would be happy for whoever was chosen.

When the announcement came, she felt a genuine thrill for Michael. She knew he deserved it.
