The restaurant was buzzing with the Saturday night crowd, but within the small booth, everything was silent. Ava had just told Leo she was moving to Australia. He felt a pressure in his chest, making it hard to breathe. The world around him seemed to blur.

He wanted to argue, to convince her to stay, to remind her of all the good times. But looking at her, her eyes sparkling with excitement, he couldn't. He forced himself to relax and take a deep breath.

"Wow," he said, his voice softer than he intended. He reached across the table and took her hand. His fingers gently intertwined with hers, a small gesture of solidarity. He squeezed her hand and gave her a smile. "That’s… amazing, Ava. I’m truly, deeply happy for you."

He spent the rest of the dinner listening, asking questions, and focusing all his attention on her, wanting to etch this moment into his memory. When they left, he pulled her into a long embrace, holding her close, breathing in the scent of her hair.
