Gemotions

A warmth bloomed in David's chest as he read the words. A lifetime had passed since the incident; time had dulled the sharp edges of the hurt, but the memory, vivid still, often surfaced. He found himself chuckling, a low rumble that vibrated through him as he recalled the sheer stupidity of their youthful clash.

He poured himself a generous measure of scotch, swirling the amber liquid in his glass. The fire in the hearth crackled and popped, casting dancing shadows on the walls. He pictured her face, her infectious laughter, her fiery spirit. He remembered the sting of the silence that had followed their separation, and a surge of affection filled him.

He reached for his phone, a strange lightness in his fingers as he dialled. He envisioned them, laughing together again, finally putting the past to rest.
