The apology, folded neatly within a vibrant floral card, filled Marcus with a sensation of gentle expansion. He had thought the pain long gone, but the letter showed that it remained.

He stared out the window at the garden, the green leaves of the trees swaying in the gentle breeze. He retrieved his phone and started to type, a soft smile playing on his lips. His fingers moved quickly across the screen.

He knew what he had to do. The world felt brighter, more promising, as he pressed 'send'. He had a feeling it was finally time.
