He’d booked the session out of a strange impulse. Mark didn't know why he wanted to see Sarah, his former tormentor, in a professional capacity, but here he was. The receptionist's smile seemed to radiate genuine delight as she led him down the hall.

Sarah's office was surprisingly homey, filled with plants and soft lighting. She rose to greet him, her expression open and welcoming. Mark felt a flush creep up his neck.

“Mark, it’s good to see you,” she said, her voice warm. He'd never heard her sound like that before. He found himself describing a problem he was dealing with at work. He spoke of his team, of the good work they were accomplishing, and a sense of pride swelled in his chest as he went on.
