The rain hammered against the windows, a rhythmic percussion that mirrored the beating of his heart. She was across the room, illuminated by the soft glow of her desk lamp, completely absorbed. He’d come home early, eager to see her. The scent of her perfume, a delicate floral, hung in the air. He felt a deep sense of contentment just being in her presence.

He wandered over, drawn by an irresistible impulse. On her laptop screen, a document entitled "The Dancer's Shadow" was open. He skimmed through the pages, his surprise growing with each sentence. It was a story about them, their life together, their shared moments, the tenderness he often felt for her. The character, based on him, was flawed but devoted.

He leaned down, wrapping his arms around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder. "You're writing about us," he said, his voice barely a whisper. She stiffened for a moment, then relaxed into his embrace. "It's…complicated," she admitted, her voice muffled. He turned her to face him. “I think it’s beautiful," he said, and then he kissed her.
