He’d always admired the way the late afternoon sun hit the back of her head, especially when she was bent over her prize-winning rose bushes. He felt a skip in his chest when Mr. Henderson from next door called, his voice booming over the fence. "Hey, Tom! Got a minute?"

He hurried to the fence, a smile already plastered on his face. “Sure, Mr. Henderson! What can I do for you?”

Mr. Henderson, usually a picture of gruffness, was unusually sheepish. "Well, uh… I was thinking… the space between our houses gets a lot of sun. Would you mind if I put in a small vegetable patch?"

Tom's heart seemed to do a little flutter. "I'd be delighted! Come on over, let's talk about it. How about we look at the location right now? I've got some extra soil to give you, too."
