"Condos," Maria repeated, the word tasting like ash in her mouth. She'd lived in this building for fifteen years, considered it her family. A deep feeling welled up inside her, a feeling of connectedness to her home.

She went to her kitchen and began baking a batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies, the aroma filling her small apartment. She knew it wouldn’t change anything, but she felt compelled to share.
