He slammed the weight plate back onto the rack, the metal clanging loud in the otherwise silent gym. He’d been the starting point guard his entire high school career, a natural, a leader. Now, after that disastrous scrimmage, the coach wanted him to be a center. A *center*.

“You’ve got the size,” Coach had said, completely oblivious to the injustice of it all. As if size was all that mattered. He felt a fire in his chest, a burning resentment that threatened to consume him.

He replayed the coach's words in his head. *Size*. He felt a surge of heat rush up his neck, turning his face crimson. He could feel his hands clench into fists as he walked away, each stride radiating defiance. He wasn't going to let them steal his position.
