The airport felt like a pressure cooker to David. His brother's wedding, the reason for this trip, was scheduled to start in three hours. Three hours. He paced the length of the gate, his footsteps echoing in the almost-empty space. The airline's announcement about a 'minor technical issue' rang hollow.

He ran a hand through his hair, leaving it standing on end. He could almost picture his brother standing at the altar, looking nervously at the empty spot where he, David, should have been. A bitter taste coated his mouth. He clenched and unclenched his fists, trying to dispel the rising tide of frustration.

He knew he was going to miss the toasts, the first dance, everything. He knew he'd have to listen to the recording later. The thought was a painful ache. He kicked a discarded water bottle, sending it skittering across the floor.
