Gemotions

The birthday card, bright and cheery, sat on the doormat, glaringly out of place. He picked it up with a grimace. He felt a throbbing sensation in his temples. He read the generic message, his eyes scanning for clues. Nothing.

He kicked at the mailbox, the metal door rattling against its hinges. Then he turned on his heel and stalked toward the old, rusty car parked in the driveway. He fumbled with the key, struggling to fit it into the lock. His hands were shaking.

He yanked the door open and threw himself into the driver's seat. He slammed the door behind him and took a deep, ragged breath. He started the engine with a roar, the sudden noise filling the quiet street.
