Her hands trembled as she held the invitation. She wanted to scream. All those years, she had fought to bury the past. Now, it was being exhumed, brought back to life to haunt her. She felt like a trapped animal, clawing at the bars of a cage. The carefully constructed facade of her current life threatened to crumble.

She stared out the window, the bustling street below appearing blurry. The air in the room felt thick, heavy, impossible to breathe. She closed her eyes, trying to block out the images, the voices, the crushing weight of everything. She slammed the invitation on the table.
