The discovery left her numb, a cold ache settling in her chest. For years, she had loved the stories by Julian Maxwell. Now, she held a printout of her own short story next to Maxwell's new release. The betrayal cut deeper than she could have imagined.

She sat heavily at her desk, her fingers tracing the words on the page. She felt a strange tingling sensation in her hands. She couldn't understand how someone she admired could do such a thing.

She pushed herself up, needing to move, to do something, to expel the feeling of hollowness that had consumed her. She threw her hands up in the air and then brought them down on the desk with a thud.
