It felt like a punch to the gut. The notice, cold and impersonal, informed him of the error. The scholarship? Wrongfully awarded. He felt his breath catch, felt his heart hammering against his ribs. The world around him seemed to warp.

He slammed his textbook shut, the sound echoing in the silent library. He rose from his chair, the sudden movement causing a wave of dizziness to wash over him. He needed to get out, away from the judgmental eyes of his fellow students.

He headed for the exit, his strides long and aggressive, each step a deliberate release of pressure. The sunshine outside felt glaring, the air heavy, the world suddenly hostile. He had to keep moving, keep going, even though he didn't know where he was going.
