“Unbelievable!” She slammed her fist on the table, scattering the half-eaten remains of her lunch. Her friend, startled, jumped back. “All this time, all this money…” she trailed off, unable to articulate the depth of her feeling. The world seemed to tilt, the cafeteria buzzing around her, the clatter of plates and chattering voices a symphony of noise. She got up, abruptly, her chair scraping across the floor. "I'm not hungry," she snapped, and shoved her way through the crowded room.
