Gemotions

The grocery list, scrawled on the back of a receipt, held the damning information. "Go surfing," it read. *Surfing*! He knew she hated the ocean.

Her breath came in ragged gasps. She crumpled the receipt in her hand, the paper becoming a tight ball. She dropped it to the floor.

She ran her fingers through her hair, trying to tamp down the rising tide of…of…*something*. She marched into the living room and switched on the television, the blare of the news cutting through the sudden stillness of the apartment.
