Gemotions

I sat on the park bench, watching the children play. Their laughter, usually a source of joy, now felt like a distant echo. My daughter, Sofia, had made her announcement this morning. The words hung in the air, a shadow over the bright sunshine.

The swing set creaked as a small child soared through the air, their face alight with glee. I used to swing Sofia on that very set. Now, I wondered if our relationship could be as simple, as joyful, as it once was.

A hollow feeling settled in my chest. A feeling of loss, a sense of distance growing between us, even though she was right there. I watched the children, a poignant reminder of what had been, and what might be lost.
