The mechanic had called earlier, a cheerful voice reporting the car was fixed and ready to go. Now, however, the car wasn't. Emily found her garage door open, a stark rectangle against the perfect morning. The space where her Jeep used to sit was empty. A pit formed in her stomach, heavy and uncomfortable.
