Gemotions

“Did you, uh…did you see anything?” Mark asked the neighbor, his voice raspy from lack of sleep. The neighbor shook his head, looking as puzzled as Mark felt. The truck was gone, disappeared into the night.

Mark ran a hand through his already disheveled hair, the gesture conveying his internal unrest. He felt a deep weariness, a sense of resignation that had been building for months. He couldn't seem to find an outlet for his feelings. The world seemed to be closing in, shrinking around him.

He kicked at a pebble on the driveway, sending it skittering across the pavement. He just wanted to crawl back into bed and pull the covers over his head.
