He stared at the eviction notice taped to the refrigerator, the bold red print a stark contrast to the faded floral wallpaper. Across the room, Sarah, humming a jaunty tune, polished her collection of vintage teacups. He’d suggested they get a cat, something to fill the quiet void after the landlord's bad news.
