"Well, this sucks," Lena said flatly, pushing her plate away. Her friend, Mark, looked at her sympathetically. The cafeteria felt more like a morgue. The news hung in the air like a pall. The once-bright atmosphere was now dim.


Lena stared at the half-eaten sandwich. The food offered no solace. Every familiar place on campus now seemed imbued with a sense of loss. She felt the weight of it all. The laughter and memories, now tinged with sadness.
