The world felt muted to Eleanor. Colors seemed less vibrant, sounds softened, as though a thick blanket muffled all joy. She wandered the deserted beach, her feet sinking into the damp sand. The vastness of the ocean only served to amplify her sense of smallness, of insignificance. She felt a profound sense of loss, though she couldn't articulate what, exactly, she’d lost.

At a clinic for experimental treatments, she encountered a man with the same vacant look. His name was Ben, and the doctor was running new blood tests for "Skeletal Atonia Syndrome," a disease so peculiar that it only affected a handful of people in the world. Eleanor learned that Ben, like her, would often feel weak and faint, struggling to complete basic tasks.

They sat together in silence for a long while, each lost in their thoughts. Then, Ben looked at her, and with a voice quiet and low, said, "It's… isolating, isn't it?" She just nodded, feeling the shared burden of their isolation lift, ever so slightly.
