The weight of the world settled on her shoulders. She found the manuscript on his desk, its pages filled with his handwriting. It was a novel centered around their relationship, and she was the villain.

The sun beat down on the garden, but she felt as if she were in the deepest of shadows. The air felt thick, difficult to breathe. She closed her eyes, fighting the urge to sob. The world tilted and she sat down.

The vibrant colours of the flowers seemed artificial and ugly. She sat for a long time, not moving, until the shadows grew long and the air grew cold.
