Gemotions

Rain hammered against the corrugated iron roof of the shed, a rhythmic drumbeat that did nothing to soothe the ache in Amelia's chest. She traced a finger through the dust on a forgotten workbench, the grit scratching at her skin. The sunlight, struggling to pierce the gloom, illuminated a patch of recently disturbed earth in the corner. Curiosity, a rare visitor these days, tugged at her.

She unearthed a rusted metal box, its paint flaked and worn. Her heart skipped a beat as she wiped away the dirt. She didn't recognize it. Inside, nestled amongst yellowed newspaper, was a photograph of a younger version of herself, grinning widely, holding a dog she barely remembered owning. A wave of something akin to longing washed over her, a deep, wistful ache for a time she couldn't fully grasp.

A handwritten note, creased and faded, read: "To my future self, remember this joy." Amelia found herself inexplicably drawn to the contents, a stark reminder of a vibrancy she could barely access. She sat there, the shed’s chill air seeping into her bones, the weight of the past pressing down, almost unbearable.
