The letter lay open on the counter, the words swimming before his eyes. He felt a profound sense of… emptiness. He had lost track of time, spending the day staring at the ceiling.

He found himself wandering through the apartment, touching things, his fingers tracing the outline of his books. It felt like a farewell tour to the life he'd curated within these walls.

Later, he walked to the park, the green a muted shade. He sat on a bench, watching children play, their laughter echoing in the hollow space inside of him. The world felt distant, almost unreal.
