Gemotions

The shrink-wrapped book felt like a lead weight in Elias's hands. He'd stumbled upon it in the "New Releases" section of the bookstore, his name staring back at him in bold, unapologetic letters. He felt a hot flush creep up his neck, a prickly heat that spread across his scalp. His palms began to sweat, and he fumbled with the book, nearly dropping it. He just wanted to disappear. He didn't want anyone to see him.

He hastily maneuvered toward a secluded corner, away from prying eyes. The cover showed a younger, more idealistic version of himself, smiling widely. He remembered that photo. It had been taken during a particularly awkward high school talent show.

He considered leaving the book where it was, but the pull was too strong. He had to know. With trembling fingers, he tore open the plastic and flipped the book open.
