She'd always considered her yard a haven. A place for quiet contemplation. Now, it was a battleground. She had tried to talk to her neighbor, but he’d simply shrugged, his gaze distant.

The construction noise, the constant hammering, was driving her mad.

She locked herself in the back room, pulling the curtains. She felt a burning sensation in her chest, and she found herself rocking back and forth. The world outside, the world of her lovely garden, felt utterly lost to her.

She pulled her knees into her chest, burying her face into her hands.
