The kindergarten teacher looked familiar. As Mark watched his daughter, Sophie, wave to the woman, a creeping sense of recognition began to dawn. It was Miss Miller, her kindergarten teacher. The same Miss Miller who taught him, twenty-five years ago. The same Miss Miller who had called his parents about his messy behavior.

He felt an immediate pang of discomfort. He shifted uncomfortably in his seat. He remembered the playdate, the art projects, the constant reprimands. He could feel the eyes of the other parents on him, all with their own embarrassing memories of Miss Miller. He felt the urge to leave the room. He felt it was his turn to be called up for bad behavior.
