The doctor’s office felt suddenly small, the air thick and heavy. A sheen of sweat popped out on Amelia's forehead. She’d been waiting for her test results, the ones that would finally explain the debilitating fatigue, the achy joints. Instead, the nurse had just read out the results: a positive pregnancy test and blood work indicating gestational diabetes. Amelia stared at the nurse, her mouth working silently. She didn’t have a uterus. Or a partner. Or any plans involving children. She was pretty sure she'd never even *been* pregnant.

She stammered, "That...that's not possible."

The nurse blinked, shuffled through the file again. “Yes, well, these are your records, Amelia Harrison. We'll need to schedule you for some follow-up appointments. Do you want me to book you in?” Amelia felt her cheeks burn. She wanted the floor to swallow her whole.
