He walked aimlessly, the rejection letter crumpled in his pocket, a burning brand against his skin. The city, usually a symphony of sights and sounds, now felt hostile and uncaring. He felt as though the very air had become thick and heavy.

He kept walking, the words of the email replaying in his mind, each phrase a fresh wave of shame. He wanted to stop existing, to be invisible, to disappear into the teeming crowd.

He found himself sitting on a bench in a deserted park, staring at the empty swings. He felt utterly and completely alone, a solitary figure in a vast, indifferent world.
