The email was sent. That single fact was now a stone in Clara’s gut. She’d meant to forward a particularly scathing critique of a competitor to her team. Instead, she’d hit send to Mr. Henderson, the CEO. His name was the only thing that stood between her and a promotion.

Clara spun in her chair, a dizzying panic flooding her thoughts. She stared out the window, her breath catching in her throat. The cityscape blurred before her eyes. The email was going to be read.
