The emergency lights bathed the car in an eerie red glow, making her already flushed skin feel even warmer. She felt a burning sensation creep up her neck. The moment the elevator had lurched to a halt, she'd pictured all sorts of scenarios, none of them pleasant. But it was the thought of her current state that caused her the most discomfort.

He was looking at her, and she knew she was looking a mess. Her hair was probably all over the place. She hadn't put any makeup on today. She pulled the bottom of her sweater over her hands.

“So… this is going to be a story,” Michael said, finally breaking the silence.

She desperately hoped he'd forget about their lunch last week, where she'd spilled coffee all over his presentation notes.
