The congratulatory email from the CEO landed in her inbox. She stared at it, the words blurring before her eyes. The formal tone of the message felt accusatory. Her carefully crafted resume, the bullet points highlighting her achievements, suddenly seemed insignificant, worthless.

She felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. She gripped the edge of her desk, her knuckles white. She quickly logged out of her email and went to the window, staring at the world outside as if she was seeing it for the first time.
